This visit by any Pakistani official to India is first since Nawaz Sharif was invited on Narendra Modi’s oath taking ceremony in May 2014.

There is no confirmation about the bilateral dialogue between both the countries. But meetings with other countries can take place.

This visit is coming midst of border tension on both sides of border which are clear violation of the November 2003 agreement.

“There could be a call on by Sartaj Aziz on the prime minister,” said former foreign secretary Lalit Mansingh. “My guess is that Aziz will meet national security adviser Ajit Doval and foreign secretary S. Jaishankar could call on him. These meetings could happen but substantive discussions are unlikely,” he said.

This visit of Sartaj Aziz is far cry situation from the day when Minister of Foreign Affairs Sushma Swaraj visited Pakistan on Dec 9 for this very event. Both Aziz and Swaraj met and launched ‘Comprehensive Bilateral Ties’.  Thus breaking the stalled bilateral ties since early 2013.

This meeting was also preceded by a meeting of PM Modi and PM Sharif in Paris on 30 November. Both leaders met along the sidelines of UN Climate Summit held at Paris. Modi also took a surprise visit to Lahore on 25 December.

Every effort to repair the ties between two countries was stalled after the attack on Pathankot Airbase attack on January 2. The attack was planned from the other side of the country. Another incident happened when a terrorist Burhani Wani was neutralized by the Indian forces in Kashmir and Pakistan gave him the status of a martyr. Pakistan had also spread the hoax of human rights violation in Kashmir in UNGA.

Cross border firing and bitter diplomatic wars between both the countries has continued and escalated after the Uri attack when 19 soldiers were killed by the terrorists in a military camp along the border in Uri.

This attack was followed by the surgical strikes on the terrorists launch pads located inside the Pakistan administered Kashmir. In this surgical strikes by Indian commandos many terrorists and their sympathizers were neutralized.

Since then 18 soldiers – 13 of army and 5 of BSF have been killed in the cross border firing. And dozens of Pakistan’s soldiers and civilians have also been killed.

“Our missions abroad, including in New Delhi, are making outreach efforts to emphasize the extremist Indian policies,” Dawn newspaper quoted Sartaj Aziz as saying.

At least nine people have been killed and seven wounded,” Speaker of Pakistani Kashmir’s Assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir said, accusing the Indian Army of “deliberately targeting” civilians.

Both the countries escalated their diplomatic war on Wednesday when Pakistan formed a special committee to counter India’s “propaganda campaign” that will also reach to the Indian’s opposed to the ‘Narendra Modi’s extremism’.

Sushma Swaraj also informed the Lok Sabha about  the crude attempt by  Pakistan to tarnish India’s image globally. Pakistan also alleged eight officials of Indian embassy of spying.

“The manner in which their names and photographs were prominently published in Pakistani media along with baseless allegation is against the Vienna Convention and also violates the norms of established diplomatic practice,” Sushma Swaraj said.
